PMLD Teaching Assistant

Hours: Monday – Friday, Full-Time, Term-Time Only

About the Role

We are looking for a caring and experienced PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN setting in UB5, supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex needs.

You will provide personalised support across learning, communication, personal care and daily routines, helping pupils develop their independence, confidence and engagement in a safe and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with PMLD

• Support personalised and sensory-based learning activities

• Assist with communication and social development

• Support personal care and daily routines where required

• Assist pupils with mobility and physical needs

• Promote independence and wellbeing

• Follow individual EHCPs, care plans and support strategies

• Work closely with teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team

• Follow safeguarding, health and safety and medical procedures

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

• Previous experience supporting pupils with PMLD or complex SEN

• Experience with personal care

• Patient, caring and compassionate approach

• Confident supporting pupils with complex communication and physical needs

• Strong teamwork and communication skills

• Enhanced Child and Adult DBS on the Update Service

• Right to Work in the UK

Desirable:

• Experience in a specialist SEN school

• Manual handling / moving and handling experience

• Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, AAC or sensory approaches

• Experience supporting pupils with physical or medical needs
