SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception

Location: NW10, North West London
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Role: 1:1 SEN Support

A welcoming and supportive primary school based in NW10 is looking for a caring, patient and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their Reception team. The successful candidate will provide 1:1 support to a child with additional needs, helping them to feel safe, included and confident within the classroom environment.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and wants to make a genuine difference to a child's learning, communication and development.

About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Reception pupil

• Support a child with Autism and ADHD

• Support a child who is non-verbal, helping develop communication and engagement

• Assist the pupil with accessing learning and participating in classroom activities

• Adapt activities and approaches to meet the child's individual needs

• Support communication, social development and independence

• Use positive reinforcement to encourage positive behaviour and engagement

• Build a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil

• Help identify and respond appropriately to the child's individual needs and triggers

• Work closely with the class teacher and wider SEN team

• Follow individual targets, strategies and recommendations to support the pupil's development

• Create a calm, safe and inclusive environment where the child feels supported

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience supporting children with SEN is desirable

• Experience working with Autism and/or ADHD would be advantageous

• Experience supporting non-verbal children would be beneficial

• A patient, caring and nurturing approach

• Strong communication and relationship-building skills

• Ability to remain calm and consistent when supporting challenging behaviour

• Good understanding of individualised support and inclusive practice

• A genuine passion for helping children develop and reach their potential

• Reliable, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
